Shamans believe that soul loss is the most common source of illness, depression and chronic fatigue, as well as a variety of mental and emotional disorders.
When we suffer unbearable pain, trauma or grief, we lose a part of our vital energy. Part of the soul may be driven from the body through substance abuse, physical violation,and/or the shock of an accident or medical crisis.
Soul loss frequently results from the breakup of a relationship or loss of a loved one. The absence of dream recall is often a strong indicator of soul loss. Recurring dreams of childhood locales and dream encounters with younger versions of us may indicate that the time is ripe for a soul retrieval. - Robert Moss author of Dreamgates

Symptoms may include:
Emotional numbness.
Saying "I haven't been the same since ____________." (the divorce, surgery, car accident, etc.,)
Issues related to PTSD
Addictive behaviors.
Panic Attacks and Anxiety
Low energy/Depression.
Low resistance to infections.
Chronic misfortune and strife in life.
The inability to experience love and joy.
A sense of something missing.
Soul retrieval restores power, energy and vitality. Working with my Teachers in the shaman's world of non-ordinary reality, I call your power back through a journey called soul retrieval.
Sometimes this process goes beyond bringing back our lost children. It may be possible to bring through some of the radiant energy of the Higher Self - our larger spiritual identity - into fuller embodiment in this lifetime. With heartfelt intention we restore power- giving you the vital creative energy that allows wisdom, clarity and purpose back into your life.
After extensive training with Sandra Ingerman and with the support of my Teachers I have been working with this method for over a decade- with clients both near and far. The principles of this process are outlined in Sandra's book Soul Retrieval- Mending the Fragmented Self.
Does my soul return on it's own?
Soul loss is a reaction to trauma. Think of a time you were suddenly frightened and your response to that fright. Remember how it felt to return to normal. Soul energy does return on it's own. Soul Retrieval is recommended when there is a lasting effect due to a loss or trauma. Most people that I have met with just know in their heart that something is missing from their life.
Can I do my own soul retrieval?
Yes, you can and you can't. It all depends on the situation and the trauma. Read Sandy's book Soul Retrieval. Set you intent "I want all my energy back now." Start an active journaling process together with tracking your dreams. Follow the new moon energy for three moon cycles by reading the New Moon Journal. Moon is soul energy and I find that people naturally start to call back their power through the new moon process. You'll know pretty quickly if this is working for you, then call me or another shamanic practitioner trained by Sandra Ingerman if you need additional support.
Human Energy Field documented before and after a soul retrieval:
At the Medicine for the Earth Reunion in 2004 we worked the GDV camera developed by Konstantine Korotkov, a Professor of Physics at St. Petersburg State Technical University in Russia. He has published over 70 papers in leading journals on physics and biology, and he holds 12 patents on biophysics inventions.
His technique, known as the Gas Discharge Visualization technique (GDV) is a breakthrough beyond Kirlian photography for direct, real-time viewing of the human energy field or aura.
The subject photographed for this Soul Retrieval is a 55 year old female. The before image was taken at the end of the day on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon the Soul Retrieval was performed. The after image was taken at the end of the day on Tuesday.
The Human Energy Field photographs show three fields:
Blue-the physical field.
Pink/Red- the emotional field.
Gold- the spiritual field.
In the before image, the fields are broken and inconsistent, indicating deficiency of energy in all areas - the physical, emotional and spiritual.
After the Soul Retrieval, there is more consistency in the flow of energy in all fields. This shows up in the photographs as a fuller band of color for each field and less breaks, indicating a healthier state of being.

What about therapy?
As a shamanic practitioner working with you, the client, I am looking at what is spiritually out of balance through the guidance of my Teachers- compassionate helping allies who I have a long and loving relationship with.
Some face a greater life challenge I suggest you commit to working with a therapist or practitioner for at least two months to effect the changes necessary to ground and anchor the new energies. This is a collaborative effort and I highly recommend working with a good psychotherapist and body worker to support your personal growth and healing.
If I want a soul retrieval, what is my next step?
Call to make the appointment.  If you want a soul retrieval I must talk with you by phone in person to discuss the matter.
Then I journey to my teachers for their permission and a diagnosis. My Teachers are in charge and know what is in order. Your role is to relax and become aware of what is happening in your outer and inner worlds.
Most times the journey to my office is just as important as the actual soul retrieval itself. Once you make your intentions known the energies of the Universe come forward to support you. Remember
Do I need more than one soul retrieval?
You may need one, you may need more than one, it all depends on what the outer and inner circumstances are that drive your life energy. It's like an energizer bunny, how long can you hold the charge? Self-care is important. Each client session is different. Techniques and methods don't heal.
Typically a power animal or teacher returns together with the core essence to help support you and the power/energy restored. There may be additional healing or integrative work that needs to happen. Just trust the process.
For those facing a greater life challenge I suggest you commit working with a therapist or practitioner for at least two months to effect the changes necessary to ground and anchor the new energies.
Some clients may require another soul retrieval. . . that is possible only after three months of integration and a diagnosis journey with my Teachers.
What typically happens in a session?
We talk a bit, then I go on your behalf to my shamanic teachers in dreamtime, I ask to see where you lost power and how that is affecting you today...I transfigure, step into the radiance, connect; during the journey there is singing and rattling, your soul essence is restored through the power song I sing.
Clients can feel the shift or opening from the sound healing. Each song is unique and digitally recorded for you to listen to after the session. In essence we sing your soul back home...
Today in a psychologically sophisticated culture many clients show up telling shamanic practitioners what healing work needs to be done.
This is not how shamanic healing works. The shamanic practitioner listens to the problem the client presents and then consults with his or her healing spirits for the spiritual diagnosis and the proper healing method.-Sandra Ingerman
Are you the right person to work with for my soul retrieval?
Be practical and proactive- you need to vet the shamanic practitioner offering to do the work. Soul retrieval is a buzz word and you'll find many people claiming to know how to step into the work.
Find a practitioner who is not only trained in soul retrieval, but also the other aspects of core shamanism- extraction healing, depossession/spirit release, transmutation & transfiguration, and curse unraveling.
You want a shamanic practitioner who knows how walk between the worlds with two feet firmly planted on the ground. There is no certification in shamanism. Ask questions, trust your gut:
How long have you been a practitioner?
Who did you train with?
How long have you been working with issues of soul loss and soul remembering?
Look at their resume and the client feedback.
Just because someone can build a website and has an online presence does not make them a good shamanic practitioner. Read more here at Sandra Ingerman's website for shamanic teachers:
How do I prepare for my soul retrieval?
Once you make the decision, you are already in the energy of the soul retrieval, so I ask you to pay attention. At our first session we'll discuss what's is going to happen. Three (3) days prior to your soul retrieval appointment before going to sleep state out loud the following intention-
Prior to the session abstain from alcohol or other addictive substances 24 hours before and after the soul retrieval. Then all you do is show up.
Some clients may feel disoriented after their session, so allow extra time to sit in my garden to ground before you drive home. You may chose to bring a designated driver. Trusted family members are encouraged to be part of the process, so let me know if they want to join our circle. You may elect to have the circle in your home, we'll drum, share space and celebrate you after the retrieval. Just know that the effects of the soul retrieval can be profound or subtle. It's an unfolding...

One of the themes that played out in my life is betrayal in relationship with myself and others. I experienced an abuse of trust and power loss at an early age creating the space for a wounded healer.
Our worst pain, our "blessed wound", offers us our greatest gifts. While I have felt a myriad of feelings over the years . . . ultimately it came down to forgiveness. If you cannot forgive another person for their transgressions, then you are committing a form of soul stealing, which equals a loss of power for you and the other person.
The concept of soul stealing is rampant in our society as we take power from another trying to use it for our own good.
Relationships, divorce, physical and sexual abuse are forms of soul stealing.
You may have ended a relationship and not felt "right".
You may suspect that another person is holding your energy and you want closure- this indicates both soul loss and theft.
You may be the thief- holding onto a person or relationship- if you find yourself mired in the essential pain of anger, grief, sadness and/or depression, it still has you and you haven't let go.
If you cannot forgive and move on then you become the weakest link as your power is directed to another place, another time and another being, it serves neither party.  So the question may also be asked-
What about children and soul retrieval?
When a child experiences a trauma in their life, it's hard for them to communicate to parents the essence of what is has happened. Trauma such as divorce, a move from a childhood home, loss of pet/friend, and even severe nightmares can sometimes trigger soul loss in a child.
At my soul retrieval the shamanic practitioner (who never met me) came back from the journey, blowing the essences in through my heart and crown chakras. A bright light turned on behind my eyes, it was so bright when the soul essence returned.
The practitioner shared "I saw you around the age of four playing with a large brown/black dog that was her best friend. Your little girl didn't want to leave the dog, but after some discussion she agreed to return." The soul retrieval brought back my ability to play.
Remember the shamanic practitioner didn't know me or this the age of 4/5 dad and I found our family dog, a brown/black retriever laying dead outside our house. She was my guardian, my protector and best friend with me since the day I was born. Before the soul retrieval I had no memory of the time period after her death, I blocked out the memory and emotions of the trauma.
With the soul energies returned I got to fully grieve the loss. The memories tied to that time in my life came back and were restored. After the soul retrieval my creative art took off in new directions in a wonderful way as I began to play again.

Please contact a shamanic teacher or practitioner on Sandra Ingerman's site for a practitioner in your area. I am not currently working one-on-one with healing clients.

There are well-trained shamanic practitioners all across the globe today, first check the Shamanic Teachers web site or Foundation for Shamanic Studies.

Soul retrieval is beneficial to both therapist and their clients; we pull back the fragmented parts so your client has a stronger foundation to work from in therapy. Many times you are talking to someone who isn't present due to the trauma/abuse and their PTSD issues.
Shamanic healing is a spiritual method of divination; a system that follows ancient principles of shamanism, not of psychology or other Western systems.  It is not derived from one specific cultural or ethnic tradition, but is based on core principles and especially adapted for use in contemporary society. This method of spiritual healing has as its goal life-enlightenment, not the treatment of psychopathology or pathological diseases. It is a problem-solving system for discovering one’s own spiritual power and the wisdom to deal successfully with daily life.
During the sessions, when needed I act as an adjunct practitioner alongside the client's regular on-going medical or therapy program. In such cases, I honor the therapist/doctor as the primary relationship, and seek to enhance and never interfere with that process.  It is the client's responsibility to inform the Doctor or Therapist of our work together.
After the soul retrieval your client will have a recording of the session so you can witness and support the necessary integration. You may want to attend the client session or schedule an appointment to discuss integrating this method into your own practice-

Note on medications: Your client's medication needs can change drastically after a soul retrieval. Sandra Ingerman in an interview relates that:
"One of my clients was a psychotherapist and a survivor of sexual abuse, but she had no memories. She had done hypnosis, regression and everything she could think about to uncover and resolve the memories. After her own soul retrieval, she said that all her memories came back, and they came back in a gentle loving way."
For all clients there is an integration that needs to take place with the information given. A soul retrieval can come at the beginning, middle or end of your therapeutic process, you'll know. If you are working with a therapist the information can be integrated into your work together (your therapist is welcome to participate in the session, if desired). A soul retrieval often speeds up a person's process and I encourage psychological support.
This is a sacred circle. Only in our culture do we elect to do this work on our own. Open to the circle. Friends and family may want to gather at the soul retrieval. Remember it is a collaborative effort, your therapist, myself, your family and the compassionate Spirit Teachers hold a sacred intention for your healing.
What is my responsibility after my soul retrieval session?
On the day of your soul retrieval give yourself plenty of time after the session to be with yourself and the energies returned. It is wise to plan an easy day- go to the beach, go to the park or just rest. I ask that you not go to work or perform work related activities, stay off the computer - this is your day of coming home to your self.
If anything do something fun!
You are responsible for making the changes in your life that support this healing.  Each day you are asked to listen to your tape from our session for a week or two so that the energies ground. There may be a ritual given to you that honors the gifts returned. Apathy happens when your illness, trauma and/or drama has more passion for life than you do. Please be aware of this. With vitality restored “how do you plan on supporting this new power?” This vitality needs a creative outlet, what can you do to use that new energy in an inspiring new way.
How do I create a positive present and future for myself?
What other tools can I use after the soul retrieval?
There are many journeys and celebrations that can support you after your soul retrieval. I advise clients to allow the energies to integrate for two weeks, making no major life changes for three months.
Just know that the effects of the soul retrieval can be profound or subtle and. . .
